Every June, Chippewa’s Irvine Park is the site of a very special event. Aurora Community Services, a human service company, hosts a June picnic each year for individuals with physical and developmental disabilities who are residents of Aurora’s homes. On the day of the picnic, Irvine Park is filled with the joy and laughter of hundreds of Aurora residents as they enjoy food, music and dancing in the Irvine pavilion. The Regis High School Football team heard about this annual picnic and the great service that Aurora provides to its residents so they volunteered to help set up and serve food this year. The Regis team takes pride in its community and being a part of such a special community event fits right in with their dedication to giving back to their neighborhood. On Friday June 18th, the football team will be up to their elbows in sloppy joes, potato salad, and baked beans and showing their civic pride. Aurora Community Services and its residents thank the team for their dedication to their community and for all of their hard work in making this picnic a fun and successful neighborhood event.
